UNIT 20 / M3 - Explain how the created media components comply with the codes and conventions of the media sectors

Before creating my posters I took inspiration and research other successful horror/thriller genre posters. For example in my research I found that majority of horror/thriller posters are usually dark and eerie and give off the sense that they aren’t your usual films. For example in the majority of the horror/thriller posters they contain there in between the bottom of the page and the middle in bold. As well as this they have underneath a piece of text that is a brief description of the media company that produced the film, this piece of text is usually in a thin font that is visible but not the easiest to read. So in my poster I had my title in a bold font in between the bottom and middle of the poster so that the background image is still visible which I edited so that it wasn’t as friendly and made it more horrifying for viewing. This helps people to understand that it isn’t a “family friendly” movie. I changed the colour of the title from a regular white to a dark shade of red, this helps to convey and push the horror/thriller theme of the poster as the red colour represents “blood” as well as other elements of thriller. To also solidify the horror/thriller as well as it not being family friendly I put in the bottom of all them an “18” rating which shows that it isn’t for the faint hearted. Going back to how the text in red showcases and represents blood in my other posters I added a tint of red in both which creates a sinister vibe for both while doing this I took the saturation down so that it stripped the majority of its colour but just left a hint of it. I’ve seen other horror posters in the colour black and white which gives off an eerie vibe as well this is why I made it the way it is.

The codes and conventions that I met in creating my poster was achieved through a specific process. For example I first had to take the pictures for the background of my posters, I took them of scenery that fitted what my vision was. I achieved this by going to my local park and capturing the lake with trees in the background. This fitted perfectly as it meant that the background wasn’t to clustered and had room for other things such as my title “shush” as well as for the release date and production company which was “twenty first century productions”.
